About The Position

This is an open position with Ohio Edison Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [OE]  Responsibilities to Include: Perform skilled installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of automotive, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment under general supervision. Overhaul, inspect, repair, test, remove, install, replace, fit, and adjust internal combustion engines, component parts, units, and assemblies. Inspect, overhaul, adjust, and repair brake systems, differential assemblies, power take-offs, radiators and cooling systems, automatic transmissions, fluid couplings, multi-wheel drive assemblies, wheel assemblies, shock absorbers, chassis stabilizers, carburetors, and fuel injection systems. Inspect, overhaul, test, and repair equipment such as earth-moving machinery, cranes, tractors, forklifts, compressors, power mowers, power saws, pneumatic tools, pumps, fans, hydraulic tools, and related controls. Repair and maintain shop and garage equipment including gas pumps, electric doors, and associated facilities equipment. Perform welding, brazing, cutting, fabrication, and modification of metal parts, supports, and reinforcement members. Make alterations and adjustments to equipment to ensure proper operation, fit, and performance. Conduct inspections and operational tests of vehicles and equipment; identify and report the need for major repairs or overhauls to supervision. Review work performed by outside vendors or garages for completeness, quality, and compliance; report defective, incomplete, or inadequate work. Inspect, adjust, recondition, and replace brake system components including master and wheel cylinders. Perform service work related to the installation and operation of electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic accessories. Diagnose mechanical and operational issues, including complex or obscure faults; perform necessary repairs, adjustments, engine tuning, and road testing. Perform skilled bench work and operate power tools and machines; adjust and repair shop equipment as required. Maintain garage buildings, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Prepare, complete, and maintain required vehicle, repair, and garage records and documentation. Direct, instruct, and train employees assigned to assist with the work. Perform the duties of Garageman as required. Perform other similar or less-skilled duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet the Company’s General Qualifications.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of diversified experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles and equipment, or equivalent experience, including required hydraulic and ASE certifications.
  • Thorough practical knowledge of the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of automotive and mobile equipment.
  • Working knowledge of specialized tools and equipment required for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repair work.
  • Practical knowledge of welding equipment, safe operating practices, and metal cutting, bending, and welding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer manuals, drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and relay instructions clearly to promote safety, cooperation, and efficient work outcomes.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with employees in other departments, sections, and external organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions.
  • Must pass Company-required Class A motor vehicle operator tests.
  • Must have a Class B CDL and required to complete a Class A CDL within 12 months of hire date.
