Job Summary Under supervision or direction, inspects, overhauls, repairs, paints, cleans, greases and otherwise services automotive and construction equipment; keeps it in condition for safe, satisfactory and economical operation as directed. Keeps the garage and service truck neat and orderly. What you will do Inspects, services, diagnoses, repairs and overhauls gasoline and diesel engines, standard and automatic transmissions, front and rear axles, hydraulic and air brake systems, springs, electrical systems, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and other chassis and auxiliary components; aligns front ends. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs minor structural failures and cracks in metal and fiberglass booms, frames and supports. Issues gas and oil; paints with brush or gun; drives a truck or operates equipment. Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Garage Mechanic Apprenticeship and pass the final position qualification exam
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period
  • This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
  • Mechanical/troubleshooting ability, capable to use computer diagnosing equipment and numerous other test equipment
  • Able to read, interpret and work from manufacturers’ operational and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform simple machining in the fabrication of parts.
  • Knowledge and application of hand tools as used in a mechanics trade.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of technical training in mechanical/hydraulics and/or five years’ experience in major overhauls on automotive, construction and other mechanical equipment
