About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Recreation & Services Manager, the student assistant provides games center services at the University Library and Sports Basement Sports & Outdoors Store to the campus community. The student assistant is exposed to a variety of people and personalities.

Requirements

  • Minimum or no previous job experience is necessary.
  • Concurrent enrollment in six or more units at CSULB and have a 2.0 GPA.
  • MUST BE PATIENT, FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WITH A VARIETY OF PEOPLE AND PERSONALITIES.
  • SHOULD HAVE A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE CAMPUS.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AS GIVEN.
  • Food Handler Certification or ability to complete this certification contingent upon employment.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week with the flexibility to cover up to 20 hours per week as needed.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and be able to talk or hear interactions with others.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • CASH REGISTER EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Operates Point of Sales System, debit machine and uses appropriate cash handling procedures.
  • Stocks drinks and food items in accordance to First in First Out (FIFO) procedures to follow ServSafe Food safety methods.
  • Issues equipment in the games center such as cue sticks, billiards balls, triangle racks, table tennis paddles, and video game console controllers.
  • Ensures that the equipment and facilities are being used in a safe manner.
  • Monitors supplies and informs the Lead Commercial Services Attendant or Recreation & Services Manager when supplies are needed.
  • General cleaning of counter and display cases by wiping down area with the proper cleaning supplies.
  • Responsible for the proper opening and closing of the Games Center inside the University Library & Sports Basement offsite location.
  • Student will work the games center events that are scheduled by the on campus and off-campus community.
  • Must be available to work at various games center locations which include both off campus & on campus locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
