About the position

At Light & Wonder, our digital team leads the global iGaming market, providing jaw-dropping content and innovative software that powers the world's most successful online gaming providers. The Game Mathematician focus specializes in constructing predictive models, algorithms, and probability engines to support data analysis or product functions; verifies model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results.

Responsibilities

  • Work with game designers and fellow mathematicians to develop proof of concept and feasible math models.
  • Work with game engineers to ensure correct implementation of math models.
  • Deliver high quality work as scheduled in accordance with the game design and product requirements.
  • Maintain an understanding of competitive products and technology.
  • Develop and prove math models for games that demonstrate game probabilities and return to player via theoretical calculation and/or Monte Carlo simulation.
  • Code, test, and debug simulations of games to gather statistics and verify accuracy of math models.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and math test engineers to ensure math models are properly implemented and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with other mathematicians and game designers to brainstorm new game mechanics and to determine mathematical feasibility of concept math models.
  • Build a strong understanding of the gaming industry's regulatory and compliance frameworks and ensure math models comply with same.
  • Engage in continuous retroactive analysis of games.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of probability.
  • Expert knowledge of gaming math models.
  • Must enjoy working in a creative environment.
  • Knowledge of programming languages, software development, design patterns and object-oriented programming.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets and software simulations to verify math models.
  • Ability to identify, research, and solve gaming related problems.
  • Ability to interface and communicate with other members of the game development staff.
  • Ability to bring projects to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player with the ability to work in a customer-oriented, very fast-paced, demanding, and deadline-driven environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internships, educational or equivalent professional experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field is considered an asset.
