Position Information Position Information Position Number 922010 Working Title Gallery Operations Coordinator Job Title Administrative Associate 6 Department Craft Center Admin Job Type Full-Time Job Purpose Oversight of the operations of a fine craft retail gallery, accompanying small supply store, exhibition gallery coordination, and supervision of part-time gallery staff. Essential Functions General gallery and supply store operations include sourcing artwork, display, lighting, gallery facility cleanliness, inventory tracking, professional signage, and labeling. Maintain all aspects of the Point-of-Sale System including daily sales, collecting monies, artist/vendor accounts, payments, reports on a daily basis, and overseeing yearly physical inventory. Develop and implement business sales and marketing plans. Schedule and supervise exhibition installation. (Includes front-end paperwork, insurance forms, and assisting AIR-Exhibitions with installations if needed). Occasionally order and maintain supplies for academic classes and workshops. Develop and implement yearly sales promotions and events. Manage, train and supervise part-time staff. Develop and manage an online sales system. Analyze variance and trends in the fine craft sales market to ensure profitability. Develop alternate venues to increase sales and visibility of the gallery, particularly online sales. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in business development, retail management, communications, marketing, Fine Art, Arts Administration or a related field. At least two years of relevant professional experience. Knowledge of current trends in craft and art markets. Ability to maintain a strong visual presentation of inventory in a sales gallery. Self-motivated and the ability to work without direct supervision. Computer experience with software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. Excellent communication skills ranging from customer service to speaking in public. Ability to set up visually pleasing displays of artwork. Ability to handle multiple projects of different types simultaneously. Experience in coordination, planning, and executing gallery events. Experience in online marketing and social networking. Preferred Qualifications Work experience in the operation of a retail gallery or retail space. Experience with Point of Sale system. Experience supervising staff. Master's degree from an accredited institution. Good working knowledge of fine craft techniques and materials involved in hand-making items of clay, fibers, glass, metal, and wood. Experience in handling works of art, including shipping packing, and unpacking. Experience in maintaining condition reports of artworks, correspondence with artists, and call for entries. Ability to recognize marketable contemporary fine craft items. Knowledge of contemporary craft trends and traditional and historical crafts of the region. Work Hours Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Compensation and Benefits Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Pay grade 8.
