About The Position

Collect, process, summarize and interpret fish population data and angler harvest data. Evaluate physical, chemical and biological characteristics of fish habitats following Fisheries Division sampling guidelines and using accepted scientific and statistical procedures. Collect and analyze data for formulation of management plans and development of specific waterbody (lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams) goals and objectives. Assist with development, design and implementation of aquatic habitat and angler access enhancement projects including natural and artificial fish habitat improvement projects. Assist with fish stocking and in collection of broodstock fish for production purposes. Provide technical assistance of fisheries habitat enhancement techniques and fish management to lake associations, private clubs and private pond owners. Perform vegetation treatments to improve angler access. Repair and maintain hatchery grounds, sampling gear, boats, trucks, and fish screens. Prepare technical reports and maintain records. Duties will also include interagency and intra-agency projects and other related responsibilities as assigned. Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of fisheries and aquatic habitat management principles, goals and objectives; fish species; life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to fisheries management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and perform maintenance on boats, motors, fish sampling equipment and electro fishing gear; work with little supervision; develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of Federal, State and local agencies and the general angling public.
