About The Position

The Furniture Business Development Manager role is focused on driving growth within Innovative’s commercial furniture division through proactive business development, relationship building, and industry engagement.  This position is responsible for generating new opportunities by building meaningful connections within key influencer groups—including Architecture & Design (A+D), Commercial Real Estate (CRE), and General Contractors (GCs)—as well as directly prospecting mid-size and large organizations.  In addition to furniture, this role will also support the growth of Innovative’s broader service and product offerings—including AV, lighting, and other complementary solutions—where they align with client needs.  Success in this role will come from consistent market presence, strong relationship development, and the ability to translate those relationships into new business opportunities across multiple categories.  This role will support business development efforts across all markets that Innovative serves, including the Twin Cities, Sioux Falls, Duluth, and Fargo.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 5–8 years of relevantbusiness development experience
  • Ability to influence andbuild relationships with high level professionals
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced, everchanging environment
  • Proficiency with office tools, systems, and administrative processes
  • Strong relationshipbuilding and problemsolving skills

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of new business opportunities within target markets
  • Proactively prospect and engage mid-size and large organizations seeking workplace, furniture, and integrated solution needs
  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional services such as AV, lighting, and other relevant offerings that enhance the client solution
  • Develop and execute outreach strategies aligned with Innovative’s growth goals
  • Partner with internal sales teams to transition opportunities into active projects
  • Establish and grow relationships within A+D, CRE, and GC communities
  • Maintain an active presence in the market through networking, events, and industry involvement
  • Position Innovative as a trusted and valuable partner across furniture and integrated workplace solutions
  • Plan and host client-facing experiences including showroom tours, product updates, and CEUs
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create meaningful and well-executed events
  • Use events and engagements as a tool to deepen relationships and generate new opportunities
  • Work closely with key manufacturer partners including Teknion, HON, Global, Kimball, and VIA
  • Leverage these partnerships to support business development efforts, events, and client solutions
  • Stay current on product offerings, trends, and differentiators
  • Work closely with sales, design, and leadership teams toalign onstrategy and opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal teams across furniture, AV, lighting, and other divisions to deliver holistic client solutions
  • Share market feedback, insights, and trends to help inform business decisions
  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of Innovative’s business development approach
