About The Position

The Furnace Development Program prepares participants for roles with glass melting responsibilities within Owens Corning manufacturing facilities. Throughout the program, participants are mentored by experienced professionals to learn technical aspects of the batching and glass melting processes essential to manufacturing our signature PINK Next Gen® fiberglas insulation. Many assignments begin in one of our glass manufacturing facilities in the U.S. or at the Owens Corning Science & Technology Center in Granville, Ohio. This opportunity provides for exposure to day-to-day operations, as well as interactions with maintenance, operations, and technical teams. Duration: The program lasts 24 months. Rotations: Participants will experience various areas: Furnace Tech & Workforce Training: Travel flexibly and shadow furnace engineers to gain insights into process leadership and training. Learn about processes, operational systems, and management technologies. Furnace Supervision: Take ownership of the melting process at a plant. Outcome: Graduate a melting subject matter experts from supplier, weighing raw materials, to application of energy, to melting stability & delivery of melted glass where product fiberized. At completion of the program, you are placed in a full-time assignment as a Furnace Engineer or Leader at a North American Owens Corning manufacturing plant.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or relevant major and/or field
  • Previous internships/co-ops with in a glass melting/furnace manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional, service, or social organizations
  • Willingness and flexibility to relocate (assistance provided)

Responsibilities

  • Use data analysis and problem-solving skills in decision making.
  • Acquire Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge in raw materials, batch, glass, melting, furnace operations, fiberizing.
  • Lead in safety and process-specific safety.
  • Maintain plant standards of work and conduct audits.
  • Solve complex problems to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
