Resurrection has an opening for a Funeral Specialist in the Locations & Care Division! The position is part-time, non-exempt and is located at the Leawood campus at 13720 Roe Ave. Please see below for a full job description. Job Summary The Funeral Specialist provides administrative and logistical support for funeral and memorial services across Resurrection’s locations. Reporting to the Director of Funerals and Member Care, this role partners closely with Location Pastors, Connection & Care Pastors, funeral coordinators, and key staff and volunteers to ensure funeral services are organized with excellence, compassion, and attention to detail. The Funeral Specialist helps ensure all services align with the church’s purpose, vision, and hospitality standards.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in Canva or willingness to learn quickly.
  • Experience in event planning, hospitality, administrative support, or care-focused environments.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds and remain on feet for extended periods as needed.
  • Flexibility in schedule, including availability to work occasional weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, formatting, and publication of funeral bulletins for all Resurrection locations.
  • Coordinate scheduling of funeral and memorial services, including (but not limited to) pastors, musicians, tech staff, funeral coordinators, and facilities requests.
  • Support the grief care follow-up process, including resourcing locations with books, cards, reports, and other grief support materials.
  • Complete death reports and related documentation for Resurrection locations.
  • Assist with the administration of Memorial Garden niche purchases and plaque orders.
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support to the funerals ministry as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow Jesus and engage in the five essential practices of the Christian life: worship, study, serve, give, and share.
  • Support the church’s purpose of “building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people become deeply committed Christians.”
  • Exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction as a United Methodist Church.
