About The Position

The Funeral Director serves a dual role within a funeral home, managing both the administrative and practical aspects of funeral services. As the Funeral Director, they coordinate funeral arrangements, offer support to bereaved families, and oversee the logistical elements of the service. As an Embalmer, they are responsible for preparing, preserving, and restoring the deceased's body, ensuring it is presented in a dignified manner for viewings and services. Both roles demand a high level of professionalism, empathy, emotional intelligence, and a deep understanding of the funeral industry's regulatory and ethical standards. The Funeral Director in charge is ultimately responsible for all services, documents, and activities surrounding the funeral establishment. Additionally, The Funeral Director and Embalmer will assist families in ensuring Osage burial customs are met.

Requirements

  • Must possess a degree in Mortuary Science from an accredited college or university, as required by the state in which the degree was obtained and/or licensure is held.
  • Must have served one (1) year as a registered apprentice under the direct Supervision of a fully licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
  • Must hold an active Oklahoma License from the Oklahoma State Funeral Board
  • Must reside and maintain a residence within 90 miles of the Osage Nation facility in Pawhuska, Oklahoma
  • Must possess excellent writing and speaking abilities
  • Must have the ability to work across disciplines with various funding sources and grant criteria
  • Must obtain/develop familiarity of Osage language and culture
  • Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation
  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
  • Requires a high level of problem solving skills
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license – may be required to drive GSA or Nation vehicles
