About The Position

The Funeral Director/Embalmer Apprentice position is a full-time apprenticeship role that involves working under the guidance of a licensed funeral director. The apprentice will assist in implementing funeral arrangements as per the wishes of the deceased's family, providing customer service, and ensuring respectful care of the deceased. This role includes a variety of responsibilities such as conducting funeral ceremonies, handling legal documents, and providing aftercare services to families.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of or currently enrolled in a dual degree training program at an accredited mortuary college or technical school.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 months experience in a funeral home, crematory, or cemetery.
  • Must meet all licensing requirements in applicable state/province as required by law.
  • Current state/province issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Implement choices made by families' legal representatives regarding funeral arrangements.
  • Provide customer service in all areas of funeral arrangements, cremation ceremonies, and internment.
  • Perform on-call responsibilities including taking first calls and conducting transfers.
  • Supervise and care for the deceased, including embalming and preparing remains.
  • Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional manner.
  • Negotiate and enter into funeral contracts, handling legal documents and payments.
  • Ensure client families are informed of special recognition/services for veterans.
  • Confirm authorization to proceed with service arrangements.
  • Supervise/assist in funeral services, including ushering and driving funeral vehicles.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations and licensing authority.
  • Provide aftercare in absence of Family Service Counselor.
  • Prepare and accurately complete documents related to services and cremations.
