About The Position

The Funeral Director Assistant Team Lead at Bliley’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Center is a part-time, supervisory position responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and back-filling our team of part-time Funeral Director Assistants (FDAs). FDAs support the respectful execution of funeral services by assisting licensed funeral directors in a variety of ways, including ushering during ceremonies, driving service vehicles between locations, coordinating processions, and hosting guests throughout – and the FDA Team Lead ensures they are available and prepared to do so. This role requires compassion, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a physically active and emotionally sensitive environment.

Requirements

  • Basic computer and administrative skills.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, listen, talk, and perform computer keyboarding. Required to lift and carry up to 70 pounds on a regular basis and lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Must be able to stand for one to two hours at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all of Bliley’s part-time FDAs and part-time Funeral Directors, including assisting with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new associates.
  • Provide or ensure all training for FDAs, including initial training during onboarding, as well as ensuring continuing education and performance management.
  • Approve timecards and manage time and labor.
  • Assist as an FDA when needed, including:
  • Maintaining integrity of front lobby and public spaces, including cleanliness and appropriate environment.
  • Greeting all guests who arrive at the funeral home with warmth, sensitivity, and professionalism.
  • Orienting guests to public spaces, offering introductions, ensuring needs are met, and providing warm hand-offs to team members.
  • Willingness to engage “Sacred Work,” i.e., respectful and appropriate contact with deceased persons.
  • Guiding guests through their first experience viewing their loved one.
  • Guiding guests through their first experience receiving their loved one’s cremated remains.
  • Assisting in the transport of deceased persons within a facility.
  • Assisting guests at public and private visitations.
  • Helping arrange and set up ceremonies held on site at our three locations in a professional and organized manner.
  • Assisting guests at public and private ceremonies on site at our three locations.
  • Assisting with service logistics, including parking, ushering, and operating AV equipment at one of our three locations.
  • Helping arrange and set up ceremonies held off-site (e.g., at a church or cemetery) in a professional and organized manner.
  • Assisting in the transport of deceased persons from one location to another.
  • Assisting with service logistics, including parking, ushering, driving funeral vehicles (e.g., flower vans and hearses), and transporting flowers or personal items.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures for FDAs are met appropriately.
  • Work closely with the Central Services Manager to ensure appropriate staffing as needed.
  • Provide regular feedback to FDAs, including performance evaluations.
