A funeral assistant is an integral part of the funeral business. As a funeral assistant, you will be trained to perform many of the functions required to keep a funeral home moving. Some of the services you will perform will include: removal of deceased individuals from homes, hospitals, and crime scenes. You will also be responsible for answering phones, learning funeral etiquette in speaking with families, nurses, and doctors, running errands, sitting in the office to cover days off of the director, driving to the medical examiner, picking up death certificates, and taking calls at night from the answering service for removals two to three days a week after hours. Additionally, you will assist during funeral services and memorial services, following the direction of the funeral director.
