About The Position

This part-time position provides administrative support, interacts with the public, and offers information regarding funeral and cremation services, as well as other related topics. Responsibilities include courteously answering phones, assisting with funeral, memorial, and other ceremonies as requested by funeral home clients and management, and responding to general inquiries. Duties may also include decedent removal and, depending on the location, assisting with lifting, carrying, transporting, and preparation of decedents. The Funeral Assistant duties must be performed consistently with the company's mission and values and in adherence to company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous customer service and/or sales experience preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite and databases preferred; ability and willingness to learn required.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and pull/push 200 lbs or more of removals if required.
  • Ability to follow instructions given over the phone or in person.
  • Ability to use a computer and type.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with colleagues to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and assist with inquiries regarding funeral and cremation services.
  • Assist with funeral, memorial, and other ceremonies as requested.
  • Perform decedent removal and assist with lifting, carrying, transporting, and preparation of decedents.
  • Prepare for services including delivering and setting up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, and personal keepsakes.
  • Prepare documents related to services, cremations, and maintenance as directed by management.
  • Perform office duties such as operating fax machine, computer, multiline phone system, and other office equipment.
  • Run errands such as floral delivery and picking up supplies.
  • Serve as an usher and may park cars or perform transportation requirements.
  • Drive Funeral Home vehicles for services and picking up families.
  • Assist with visitations, memorial, and funeral services.
  • Greet and receive client families and/or other persons entering the location for information and assistance.
  • Accommodate the needs of the family during service and/or visitation.
  • Wash and clean funeral home vehicles and other client vehicles as required.
  • Work beyond standard business hours, including weekends and holidays, if required.
