Position Overview and Objectives: Seeking a talented and self-motivated automotive Functional Safety Engineer located in Farmington Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience in the application of ISO 26262:2018 Automotive Functional Safety as applied to complex electronic controllers. The electronic control units may integrate with other mechatronic components such as sensors and mechanical actuators. The ideal candidate will be working in a culture that fosters creativity and problem solving. This position will play a key role in a development team that creates advanced automotive electronic systems for the future. Responsibilities: Assist system engineering in maintaining complete traceability between requirements, implementation, and test results. Provide functional safety input to systems engineering led hardware/software interface specifications to insure proper diagnostic coverage requirements are documented and implemented. Participate in safety anomaly root cause analysis and issue resolution during all development phases. Perform functional safety work to assess compliance to customer ASIL level and safety requirements. Participate in all hardware and software design reviews ensuring compliance of all functional safety requirements. Handling of both internal and external ISO 26262 automotive functional safety audits. Handling of reviews and audits such as A-Spice assessments. Comply with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices. Perform any other assignments from time-to-time as management so directs. Treat everyone with dignity, trust, and respect.

  • Experience in hardware and software system integration, such as integration of new sensors, actuators.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial test and validation environment.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and writing specifications as they relate to automotive functional safety.
  • Hold a valid or recent certification credential in functional safety, such as UL-CFSP (UL Certified Functional Safety Professional in Automotive), TUV SUD ISO 26262 FSCP Level 1 Functional Safety Engineer or higher classification.
  • English: Fluent in written and verbal communication.
  • Perform functional safety analysis using medini analyze including FTA , FMEDA
  • Read and create SysML models using Enterprise Architect
  • Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in electrical or system engineering. Other engineering degrees with applicable experience will be considered.
