About The Position

The Functional Family Therapist (FFT) provides evidence-based, in-home and community-based family therapy services to youth and families referred through the juvenile justice system, child welfare, or community mental health pathways. Working within the Functional Family Therapy model, the therapist engages families to reduce risk factors, strengthen protective factors, and improve overall family functioning. This position serves a diverse population in the Las Cruces area and surrounding Doña Ana County communities, requiring flexibility, cultural competence, and a commitment to family-centered care.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a closely related behavioral health field preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of post-graduate clinical experience working with youth and families in a behavioral health setting preferred.
• Licensure as LMSW, LCSW, LPCC, LMFT, or equivalent New Mexico clinical license preferred. Prior experience with juvenile justice-involved youth, child welfare populations, or community mental health is highly desirable.
• OR Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field will be accepted with a minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate experience working with youth and families in a behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and family therapy using the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) model, adhering to fidelity standards established by FFT LLC.
• Conduct comprehensive family assessments including risk/needs evaluations, family functioning assessments, and individualized treatment planning.
• Deliver services in home, community, and office settings; maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate family availability including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Maintain a caseload as determined by program needs, typically ranging from 10–15 active family cases.
• Collaborate with referral sources including juvenile probation officers, CYFD caseworkers, school personnel, and other community stakeholders to coordinate care.
• Document all client contacts, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with agency standards and within required time frames.
• Participate in weekly FFT supervision, team meetings, and case consultations to ensure treatment fidelity and promote positive client outcomes.
• Facilitate crisis intervention as needed; develop and implement safety plans for families experiencing acute risk situations.
• Provide psycho-education to family members on topics such as communication skills, conflict resolution, parenting strategies, and adolescent development.
• Complete all required reporting obligations, including mandatory abuse/neglect reports to CYFD in accordance with New Mexico state law.
• Maintain compliance with all agency policies, licensing board requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Participate in community outreach, training, and professional development activities as assigned.
