Job Summary: The Functional/Epilepsy Neurosurgeon will play a pivotal role in the management and treatment of patients with functional and epilepsy-related neurological disorders. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an academic environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts and engaging in cutting-edge research and education while utilizing state-of-the-art techniques and equipment: iMRI, cranial robot, laser, MEG .

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and board certification in neurosurgery.
  • Fellowship training in functional neurosurgery and/or epilepsy surgery.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of [Location].
  • Demonstrated expertise in the evaluation and surgical management of functional and epilepsy-related neurological disorders.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care, research, and education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree.
  • BC/BE in Neurosurgery with expertise in complex spinal surgery.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care:
  • Evaluate and diagnose patients with functional neurological disorders and epilepsy.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, which may include surgical intervention, medication management, or other therapeutic modalities.
  • Perform complex neurosurgical procedures, such as deep brain stimulation ( DBS ), responsive neurostimulation ( RNS ), laser ablation, and resective epilepsy surgery.
  • Monitor and follow up on patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients and their families.
  • Research:
  • Engage in clinical and translational research related to functional and epilepsy neurosurgery.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and contribute to ongoing research projects within the department.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Education:
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in neurosurgery.
  • Participate in didactic and clinical teaching activities.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, neuropsychologists, and other healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Participate in case conferences and tumor boards to discuss complex cases.
