About The Position

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for a six-month term to support projects focused on racial inequality. The role involves collaboration with project Principal Investigators on applied microeconomics studies, utilizing advanced natural language processing methods to analyze historical data. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong quantitative background and programming skills, particularly in Python and R, who are interested in economics research.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or Master's degree in Computer Science or Data Science by January 1st, 2024.
• Experience in supervised learning for classification (SVM, BERT) and transforming models.
• Proficiency in programming and computational methods in natural language processing using Python and R.
• Experience with OCR recognition of large datasets and machine learning techniques for text extraction.
• Demonstrated background in programming with R and Python.

Nice To Haves

• Background in economics (not required but helpful).
• Experience using computer cluster facilities for handling large datasets (Linux).
• PhD students in Computer Science or Data Science are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with project PIs on applied microeconomics studies related to racial inequality.
