Full-Time Tenure Track Position in Public Economics
About The Position
The O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O’Neill) at Indiana University-Bloomington invites applications for a tenure track academic appointment in the general field of public economics at the Assistant Professor rank . Preferred start date is August 1, 2026. Candidates must have completed (or expect to complete prior to appointment) a Ph.D. in economics, public policy or related field. Applicants are expected to develop a nationally recognized program of research, seek external funding, advise doctoral students, mentor masters and undergraduate students, and teach courses related to public finance (e.g. public budgeting, taxation, cost-benefit analysis, public financial management) at graduate and undergraduate levels to students that come from many different backgrounds. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in contributing to O’Neill’s research programs, curricular offerings and service portfolio. O’Neill-Bloomington contains a diverse student and faculty community and is the largest school of public affairs and public policy in the United States, with over 4,000 students, and for five years has ranked in one of the top two spots of the U.S. News & World Report rankings for graduate public affairs schools in the country. Six of O’Neill’s specialty programs are ranked in the top five listings nationally, including Public Finance and Budgeting, which is ranked number 1. O’Neill is also tied for the top-ranked public administration program according to the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities. The school attracts very high performing faculty and students and provides a collegial workplace environment. Indiana University is a major research University founded in 1820 and currently enrolls over 38,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate and professional students on the Bloomington campus.
