About The Position

The position involves evaluating patients within twenty-four (24) hours of physician referral, with documentation required if unable to meet this timeline. The role includes developing effective treatment plans, obtaining approval from referring physicians, and treating patients according to these plans. The Speech Language Pathologist will supervise assistants in direct patient care, communicate with health team members about patient progress, and participate in various meetings and training programs. Responsibilities also include recording evaluations and treatment notes, instructing families and nursing staff, participating in discharge planning, and acting as a clinical preceptor for students. Compliance with state practice acts and facility policies is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology; prefer graduates of Masters or Doctorate programs.
  • Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including data input into programs like Casamba and Point Click Care.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and policy manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

  • Experience supervising clinical fellows and training restorative aides.
  • Continuing education in line with state practices.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients within 24 hours of physician referral.
  • Document causes for delays in evaluations.
  • Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval from referring physicians.
  • Treat patients according to physician treatment plans.
  • Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care.
  • Communicate with supervisors and health team members regarding patient progress.
  • Participate in Patient Care Conferences and Utilization Review meetings.
  • Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, and progress notes.
  • Instruct families and nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Act as a clinical preceptor for CFY/RFP Speech Language Pathologists and students.
  • Comply with state practice acts and facility policies.
