About The Position
YWCA Cass Clay is currently seeking a Full-Time Evening Shelter Support Specialist to assist with the daily operations of the shelter. This position is crucial in providing support to women and children in need, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. The hours for this role are from 2 PM to 10 PM, and candidates must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays. The Shelter Support Specialist will be responsible for admitting clients into the shelter, completing necessary intake paperwork, and orienting them to the YWCA Emergency Shelter and its policies. This role requires a compassionate individual who can ensure that clients comply with program guidelines and procedures while providing them with essential items such as food and clothing. In addition to client intake and support, the Shelter Support Specialist will maintain accurate records of staff and participant activities, including daily journals, resident logs, and shelter duty checklists. Security is a top priority, and the specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the shelter by managing locks, security systems, and fire alarms. In emergency situations, the specialist must respond appropriately, utilizing First Aid and CPR skills as needed. General administrative functions, such as documentation and communication with clients, are also part of the job responsibilities. The role requires the specialist to provide information and referrals to clients seeking additional resources, ensuring that they receive the support they need. Consistent coverage for assigned shifts is essential, and the specialist will work both independently and as part of a team to complete all tasks. Attending scheduled shelter meetings and preparing sleeping rooms by cleaning and stocking are also part of the job. The Shelter Support Specialist will sort and organize donations and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shelter, delivering services with safety, respect, and effectiveness. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
