About The Position

The Salvation Army has been serving people in need for over 130 years, providing necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. The organization supports individuals facing unemployment, addiction, and family challenges, adapting to meet emerging needs while living out its mission of hope, service, dignity, and stewardship. The position involves working in a group home facility, where the incumbent will respond to the safety and health care needs of residents, act as a role model, and support personal development through individual support planning. Responsibilities include advocating for residents, fostering independence, administering medication, and maintaining records. The role also involves household organization, health and safety compliance, and participation in organizational standards and training.

Requirements

  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Police/Criminal Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, twisting, lifting of 50 lbs, considerable walking, standing, writing, computer work, and housekeeping

Responsibilities

  • Know and respond to safety and health care needs of residents
  • Act as a role model for all residents as reflected by appearance, behavior and attitude
  • Provide support for residents’ personal development as decided through individual support planning (ISP)
  • Advocate on residents’ behalf/facilitate self-advocacy to community supports in collaboration with colleagues and other healthcare professionals
  • Ensure learning opportunities are provided utilizing agency and community resources
  • Foster independence in residents including supervising and assisting residents with meal preparation and clean-up and other daily living skills
  • Administer medication as prescribed and according to policies and procedures
  • Support resident involvement in leisure activities (Christian education, bowling, special events, etc.)
  • Complete/maintain resident records, shift reports and update communication book
  • Follow and promote the agency’s and site program goals and philosophy
  • Track, compile, analyze and make recommendations based on resident data
  • Adhere to site menu plan and food restrictions
  • Ensure the general site appearance is clean and tidy before the shift is completed
  • Maintain and account for use of site and resident monies, TTC tokens, taxi chits and household supplies, etc.
  • Complete daily household routines as required (cooking, groceries, laundry and cleaning, etc.)
  • Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations
  • Adhere to agency’s Health & Safety policies and program
  • Complete daily walkthroughs/inspections of site as assigned
  • Report/complete and forward maintenance requisition forms to main office
  • Report accidents/injuries/workplace hazards in a timely manner
  • Responsible use of agency’s vehicles, equipment and property
  • Follow the principles of nonviolent crisis intervention philosophy
  • Maintain effective communication
  • Participate in meetings and staff development training at discretion of Manager and Administration
  • Make suggestions to improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures, as applicable
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned
