About The Position

The Full-Time Nursing Faculty position for the BSN Program is an on-campus position (including didactic, laboratory, and clinical responsibilities). The faculty will facilitate the learning experience for the students by: engaging students in rich discussions; providing timely, relevant, clear feedback; analyzing and evaluating student performance; as well as encouraging, mentoring, and coaching students throughout the program.

Requirements

  • Must hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree (Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred)
  • Must have an active unencumbered Nursing license (or eligibility for licensure) in the state of Tennessee
  • Minimum of two years of Nursing experience

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of full-time nursing education experience highly preferred
  • Strong technical skills highly preferred [able to utilize and learn current Learning Management System (LMS), Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, & PowerPoint), and various other technology-based delivery systems]

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate learning
  • Create a nourishing teaching and learning environment
  • Assume total responsibility for teaching assignment in close cooperation with other faculty and the Executive Nursing Leadership Team.
  • Select learning activities, audiovisual materials, textbooks, library references, computer software and other course materials to facilitate student learning.
  • Maintain 24-credit-hour teaching load for 10-month contracts or 30-credit-hour teaching load for 12-month contracts
  • Facilitate learner development and socialization
  • Orient students to the course, the current LMS, and other necessary learning modalities
  • Report to Executive Nursing Leadership Team all incidents related to students in the classroom and/or clinical area
  • Keep Executive Nursing Leadership Team informed as to progress and serious problems of students
  • Assist in student recruitment and admission activities as designated by the Executive Nursing Leadership Team
  • Participate in student career development by providing advisement, mentoring, and references
  • Use assessment and evaluation strategies
  • Evaluate students and provide feedback in a fair, consistent and timely manner
  • Maintain up-to-date files on all details of the portion of the teaching program delegated to him/her. File remains a part of the School of Nursing on termination of contract
  • Maintain confidential student records
  • Participate in curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes
  • Assist in the process of evaluation of student learning outcomes and program outcomes and the accreditation process as needed
  • Participate in development, maintenance, and evaluation of curriculum and program policies as needed
  • Pursue systematic self-evaluation and improvement in the academic nurse educator role
  • Maintain clinical relevance in area of expertise through practice, continuing education, and/or professional development
  • Participate in professional development activities to build skill set in the role of the academician and nurse educator
  • Serve as a resource person and role model for students, staff, and other faculty
  • Complete program and university self-evaluations annually or as requested
  • Function as a change agent and leader
  • Serve on School of Nursing, College, and University Committees as appropriate and/or appointed by the Executive Director of the School of Nursing, and/or Dean of the College of Health Sciences
  • Participate in service activities to the school of nursing, the university, and the community
  • Participate in special projects and programs that assist with marketing and recruitment
  • Engage in scholarship of teaching
  • Collaborate with other departments and/or colleges within the University as needed
  • Maintain clinical relevance in area of expertise through practice, continuing education, and/or professional development
  • Participate in professional development activities to build skill set in the role of the academician and nurse educator
  • Function effectively within the organizational environment and academic community
  • Accept and uphold the mission and philosophy of the University, the School of Nursing, and the BSN Program.
  • Participate in commencement activities in December and/or May per the University’s Faculty Handbook
  • Carry out other assignments as requested by Executive Nursing Leadership Team
