About The Position

The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and for those patients who require non-emergency or interfacility medical transport. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link into the health care system and resource for routine and interfacility transports.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Technician certification to be obtained in 30 days of hire.
  • West Virginia Office of EMS EMT Certification to be obtained in 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course or ability to complete within six months of hire.
  • Valid BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA Preferred) to be obtained in 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) within one month of hire.
  • ITLS or PHTLS certification to be obtained within six months of hire and renewed within two years.
  • PEPP certification to be obtained within six months of hire and renewed within two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate, Bachelor, or graduate level degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary educational institution.
  • AMLS certification.
  • GEMS (Geriatric Education) Certification.
  • Other relevant prehospital certifications.
  • Two years or more of experience as a field provider at the EMT level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example to ensure safety of Mon EMS personnel, patients, and the community.
  • Ensure in-service vehicles, supplies, controlled substances, and equipment are thoroughly checked.
  • Take initiative to complete work assignments without prompting.
  • Act with integrity and accountability in all actions.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Use information to make educated decisions and solve problems.
  • Respond to all requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide excellent patient care based on current EMS protocols.
  • Complete and review patient care and billing documentation for accuracy.
  • Complete mandatory education and competency programs on time.
  • Respond to multi-patient incidents and serve as an officer in the Incident Command System.
  • Engage in community service and patient advocacy.
  • Understand and respect cultural diversity in the community.
  • Complete job duties without prompting and maintain a positive work attitude.
  • Motivate others and support organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and seek feedback for personal growth.
