About The Position

The Principal Faculty member as a Full-time Faculty Instructor in the Physician Assistant Program is primarily responsible for course instruction and/or course coordination in both the didactic and clinical phases of the program. This role involves effective course design, delivery, and evaluation to ensure that students meet the program's Student Learning Outcomes and achieve competencies required for PA practice. The Principal Faculty/Faculty Instructor collaborates with the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education and the Program Director to assist with curriculum assessment and maintain ARC-PA accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Terminal Degree in healthcare disciplines such as pharmacy, public health, or physician assistant.
  • Minimum of a Master's degree is required.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline.
  • 1-2 years teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession preferred; 2 years of clinical experience required.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
  • Current NCCPA certification for PAs is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, ExamSoft, and WebAdMIT.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching and instruction in the PA program, coordinating instruction for a minimum of 6 courses annually.
  • Lecture in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.
  • Provide academic advising as a Small Group Facilitator and Student Advisor.
  • Assist the Director of Didactic Education in the administrative coordination of the didactic phase of the program.
  • Assist the Director of Clinical Education in the administrative coordination of the clinical phase of the program.
  • Assist with curriculum development, including design and implementation.
  • Conduct ongoing curriculum evaluation and improvement.
  • Perform student evaluations of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), lab practicals, and clinical reasoning sessions.
  • Evaluate student performance on assignments, including clinical documentation and health literacy projects.
  • Create examinations and map exam questions to accreditation standards.
  • Assist with accreditation activities and program evaluation.
  • Participate in the program's admissions process, including open houses and candidate interviews.
  • Engage in service, community relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities each year.
  • Assist with clinical site development and monitoring.
  • Provide remedial instruction as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Directors and Campus Leadership.
