About The Position

This is a full-time faculty position reporting to the Dean of the Division of Communication and Arts. The instructor is responsible for teaching fifteen load hours (5 classes) each fall and each spring semester in the English department. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and collegial faculty, pursuing innovative strategies across our curriculum. Recent initiatives include implementing multiple measures placement and co-requisite developmental education courses and adopting Open Education Resources.

Requirements

  • Satisfy the academic qualifications to teach English courses in the department, including Composition I and II, Developmental English, and Literature
  • A Master’s degree with at least 18 hours of graduate credit in English
  • Minimum of THREE (3) years of teaching experience

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in English or a Master of Fine Arts degree in writing
  • Experience teaching developmental courses
  • Experience teaching co-requisite courses
  • Experience teaching asynchronous online, remote synchronous (live-streamed), or hybrid classes
  • At least FIVE (5) years of teaching experience
  • Experience teaching at a community college
  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs
  • Knowledge of campus and community resources
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs
  • Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations
  • Ability to compile information into report form

Responsibilities

  • Teach 5 English courses in fall and spring semesters including developmental Composition I, non-developmental Composition I, and non-developmental Composition II
  • Teach college courses to a diverse student population, including traditional and non-traditional college students, as well as dual enrolled high school students in programs such as the Early College Experience program
  • Teach 16-week, 12-week, and 8-week sections, as needed.
  • Teach mornings, afternoons, and evenings as needed
  • Teach in-person on the Benton County and Washington County campuses as needed; teach hybrid, online, and remote synchronous (live-streamed) sections, as needed
  • Ensure all learning outcomes for the college are achieved; optimize student retention and success
  • Meet assigned classes; facilitate and evaluate student learning; submit grades by established deadlines; maintain student records in accordance with FERPA regulations
  • Fulfill institutional requirement to be on campus 32 hours weekly during fall and spring semesters, including being available to students for consultation for ten on-campus office hours per week
  • Participate in the continued development of the English program and in program-level learning assessment
  • Participate in the summative and formative faculty evaluation process
  • Participate in professional development opportunities both on and off campus
  • Remain current in the academic discipline and professional field.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide committees as assigned
  • Attend college-wide meetings, division, and departmental meetings as scheduled
  • Perform other academic duties as assigned by the instructor’s supervisor
