About The Position

The Electrical Instructor at South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) is responsible for providing and supporting classroom instruction for the Electrical program. This role requires a thorough and accurate knowledge of the teaching field and discipline, as well as the ability to plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning. The instructor will maintain student discipline through effective classroom management, prepare and provide course syllabi and instructional materials, and evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Additionally, the instructor will maintain office hours for student consultations, ensure a safe and orderly lab environment, and develop professional relations with the industry through visits and advisory committee meetings. Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, utilizing technology for data management, and fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the college calendar are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree with at least two (2) years of directly-related occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught, OR an Associate's Degree and three (3) years of occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught, OR a relevant Certificate and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught, OR five (5) years' work experience in the teaching field to be taught.
  • Must have relevant current professional certification and or licensure in the field to be taught.
  • Must have appropriate educational qualifications, as determined by the relevant programmatic accreditation agency, to act in the required positional role.
  • Must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an Associate's Degree to be considered for continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing and supporting classroom instruction for the Electrical program.
  • Demonstrating and applying a thorough and accurate knowledge of the teaching field and discipline.
  • Planning and organizing instructions to maximize student learning.
  • Maintaining student discipline through effective classroom management.
  • Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students.
  • Evaluating and reviewing students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Maintaining office hours for student consultations.
  • Maintaining a safe, orderly and up-to-date lab area for the application of multiple labs within the Electrical curriculum.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
  • Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards.
  • Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others and facilitate learning.
  • Attaining, maintaining and reviewing program certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.
