About The Position

This is a full-time 9 month, open rank, campus-based faculty position in the School of Design, Arts, and Communication’s Department of Communication with responsibilities for teaching face-to-face undergraduate Business Communication and Communication Studies courses. Course assignments may include teaching introductory communication courses such as Public Speaking, Human Communication, Intercultural Communication, Communication Theory, and Communication Ethics, and courses within the successful candidate’s disciplinary area of expertise. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year, commensurate with rank. The full-time faculty member fulfills all responsibilities of the rank as described in Stevenson University policies and the School of Design, Arts, and Communications full-time faculty job description.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in instructional activity totaling 24-30 credit/contact hours per academic year as assigned.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise teaching methods, curricula, and materials regularly to reflect latest developments in the field and respond to students’ needs.
  • Design and implement learner-centered instructional activities and assessment plans and processes.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the program, School, and University.
  • Learn, understand, and effectively articulate the differences between the Business Communication and Communication Studies programs within the department.
  • Conduct student advising activities including holding regular office hours, and providing students with support, resources, and/or recommendations regarding personal, academic, curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
  • Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff meetings, and relevant academic Department/School meetings.
  • Engage in service, which means actively participating the life and work of the department, school, and university including, but not limited to: attending department meetings; participating in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental events; and participating in shared governance and university committees.
  • Engage in research/scholarship and continuing professional development related to the Communication discipline, profession, and pedagogy.
  • Respond to student feedback for each course and complete training or professional development as required by the University.
  • Collegiality, as well as professional and ethical conduct, enhances teaching, learning and the general reputation of all persons in the academy. Therefore, all faculty members are expected to serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.
  • Follow all faculty and program policies outlined by the School and the University.
