About The Position
The Early Literacy Associate at Mid-Continent Public Library plays a crucial role in enhancing the library experience for early learners, specifically those aged birth through five years. This position is centered around providing exceptional customer service, which includes direct interaction with patrons at the information desk. The associate will engage with customers both in person and over the phone, guiding them in utilizing library resources effectively. A significant aspect of the role involves presenting programs tailored for early learners, such as storytime sessions, early literacy fairs, and collaborating with community partners like schools and daycares to promote literacy and learning in a fun and engaging manner. In addition to customer service, the Early Literacy Associate is responsible for creating visually appealing displays that attract young readers and their families. This includes recommending materials based on individual interests and needs, assisting with library card accounts, and providing curbside delivery for those who request it. The associate will also evaluate and report on the effectiveness of programs, ensuring that they meet the educational and entertainment needs of the community.
