As a Bus Operator at CATA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely operation of transit coaches while providing excellent service to our diverse group of riders. This position requires a strong work ethic, flexibility, and the ability to follow directions effectively. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality service to all staff and customers. The role involves operating a transit coach in various weather conditions, adhering to FTA policies and all Federal and State traffic laws and regulations. You will also be responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of streets, current bus routes, stops, fare structures, and bus pass programs. In addition to driving, you will interact tactfully and courteously with riders, other motorists, and the general public. Compliance with ADA requirements is essential, as you will need to operate accessibility ramps and wheelchair lifts, secure passengers safely, and make required stop announcements. Pre-trip and post-trip inspections are part of your responsibilities, along with completing necessary paperwork accurately for incidents, accidents, and maintenance repairs. The position requires a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts, with the understanding that 40 hours a week is not initially guaranteed. CATA offers a supportive work environment with paid training provided, and a sign-on bonus for qualified candidates. The starting pay rate for trainees is $20.15 per hour, with salary increases in subsequent years. Successful candidates will undergo a motor vehicle record check, drug and alcohol testing, a criminal background check, and a functional requirement evaluation.
