About The Position

The Minnesota Guardian ad Litem Program is dedicated to advocating for the best interests of children involved in juvenile court proceedings, particularly those who have experienced abuse and neglect. As a Guardian ad Litem, you will play a crucial role in representing these children in court, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. This position is full-time and requires a commitment to working under the supervision of a Program Coordinator and the 2nd District GAL Program Manager. The work involves a variety of responsibilities, including observing children in their homes and other settings, compiling findings and recommendations, and presenting these to the court in a timely manner. You will be expected to attend court hearings, prepare written reports, and testify as needed, all while adhering to the Minnesota Rules of Practice and the specific guidelines set forth by the GAL Program. Your role will also involve interacting with various stakeholders, including judges, attorneys, and community members, to gather information and advocate effectively for the children you represent. You will need to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and knowledge of community resources to ensure that the recommendations you make are appropriate and beneficial for the child and their family. The position requires a high level of professionalism, critical thinking, and the ability to manage complex family dynamics. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain accurate records and documentation, participate in ongoing training, and potentially mentor new Guardians ad Litem. This position is remote, with significant travel required throughout Ramsey County. Candidates must reside near the assigned service area and may have the opportunity for a hybrid work model in the future. The work environment can be challenging, as it involves exposure to secondary trauma and conflict, necessitating a strong commitment to the well-being of the children and families served.
