XCEL Engineering is part of IT Lab Partners (ITLP), created to support Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in recruiting technical talent to the East Tennessee region. ORNL is a premier research institution near Knoxville in Oak Ridge, TN, addressing national needs through impactful research. The Full Stack Developer will design, develop, and maintain responsive, high-performance front-end applications, collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI-driven features into user interfaces, and work within fast-paced, iterative development cycles to deliver production-ready solutions. This role involves implementing and optimizing workflows leveraging Agentic AI frameworks, contributing to architecture decisions and front-end best practices, integrating APIs and backend services, participating in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement processes, and supporting deployment and scaling of applications within the American Science Cloud ecosystem.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in front-end or full-stack development
  • Strong proficiency in: Experience working with Agentic AI systems or AI-driven development environments
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Claude Code and OpenClaw
  • Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, dynamic project environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, "can-do" mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience working on large-scale cloud-based platforms or government-related projects
  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into production applications
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and performance optimization
