About The Position

The School of Public Affairs (SPA) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) is conducting a search for a tenured faculty position at the Full Professor level with a specialization in emergency management. This is a full-time, -eligible, academic-year (9-month) faculty position that will begin in August 2025. We are open to emergency management broadly defined. We will consider any candidate who would be eligible for the rank of full professor within SPA at ASU. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to produce novel, high-impact research that enhances the national and international reputation of SPA and ASU. Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, emergency management, disaster science, geography, sociology, complex systems, public health, political science or related field.
  • Strong evidence of a research agenda in emergency management, hazards governance, disaster science, risk reduction, homeland security, or related areas.
  • A record of distinguished scholarly research and professional accomplishments that merits appointment as a full professor with tenure.
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with external organizations, such as emergency management agencies, government entities, nonprofit organizations, or private sector partners, to advance research, policy, or community preparedness initiatives.
  • Experience with administration of academic programs, such as a department chair, director of graduate studies, or director of undergraduate studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding to support research.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior faculty and students, fostering their academic and professional development through research collaboration, guidance on career advancement, and support in teaching and service activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses in person, online and hybrid.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Maintain and strengthen a record of scholarly productivity as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, external funding, and presentations at national conferences.
  • Provide service contributions to the school, college, university and profession.
