About The Position

Responsible for coordinating and transacting daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal fuel trading and logistics. Responsible for the development and implementation of trading and risk management strategies to optimize energy assets. Provides analytical support to the Fuel Supply and Strategy team with a primary focus on commodities such as natural gas, fuel oil and coal. Monitoring market fundamentals including supply, demand, pricing, storage, transportation logistics, weather impacts and regulatory developments. Confirm compliance with applicable Board Policies and Procedures. Assisting with the negotiation of terms and conditions for enabling agreements dealing with supply, transportation and other commercial issues. Utilize document control and specialized software for data analysis and internal reporting. Support the department’s front/mid/back-office requirements as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration or related field. Additional work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with data analysis, energy accounting and settlements within the fuel procurement and/or energy trading sectors of the electric utility industry, contract administration, supply management or an advanced degree in related topics is desirable.
  • Fuel Trading Analyst II-level requires thee (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience.

  • Conduct research and analysis of market trends, supply-demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors affecting fuel prices.

  • Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiates daily and monthly commodity purchases and/or sales and awarding of contracts and terms consistent with SECI's policies and procedures, including established credit and trade authorization limits.
  • Performs energy accounting in Seminole’s Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) database(s) to support fuel procurement.
  • Coordinates the invoice review process for agreements as required and resolves invoice issues as appropriate or elevates issues upward if resolution is not achieved.
  • Coordinates various commercial mid-office functions (e.g., credit monitoring, transaction confirmation) across departments and supports development of new tools and processes to reduce Seminole’s commercial transaction risk.
  • Acts as Lead for natural gas scheduling for front office team.
  • Conducts ad hoc analysis and project work related to Seminole’s commercial activities.
  • Manages existing agreements for Seminole's Fuel, Power and other term agreements as required. Includes coordination of activities for term agreements, such as organization and completion of contractual data requirements, credit support, notifications, and annual testing.
  • Actively maintains a database for future contractual deadlines, which includes monthly reporting status updates to leadership.
  • Conducts analysis and provides recommendations to support the negotiation of new contracts or the restructuring of existing agreements across multiple commodities.
  • Ensures appropriate storage/retention of all existing and/or new agreements with other internal departments and administers the notification and processing of commercial activities to meet contractual deadlines.
  • Prepares reporting and requested analysis related to existing agreements for Commercial Operations and other necessary divisions. Completes and ensures accurate reports for external compliance processes (FERC, EIA and CFTC).
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.
