In this role, you will be supporting the global Fuel Applications engineering teams by performing vehicle level DV testing. The Development engineer will be responsible for testing prototype vehicles, including instrumentation scheduling and prove-out, performing vehicle level tests in Dearborn, Arizona Proving Grounds, and remote locations (Denver, California, other Arizona locations), collecting, analyzing, and reviewing data. Also, you will conducting data reviews with the applications engineers and technical experts. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining testing timing plans to ensure completion prior to program milestones and schedule and perform tests with labs in Dearborn.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 1+ year of fuel hardware experience and knowledge.
  • 1+ years of experience using ATI and/or ETAS software (or industry similar data acquisition software) to monitor and record parameters from vehicle controllers and external instrumentation, required during vehicle DV tests.
  • Ability to use the software to analyze data post-test.
  • 1+ years of experience performing vehicle level testing.
  • Ford Tier 2 driving qualification + trailer tow + dyno operation + high altitude medical qualification (or the ability to attain and maintain).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Two or more years of general fuel, diesel / SCR, and evaporative systems, are desirable.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Write DV test requests for all Ford lab subsystem and vehicle test sites required using VDO and other test request systems (PFSL, SGS, APTL, Roush Instrumentation, DTF Wind Tunnel, Raco, APG, TRP in Colorado)
  • Attend weekly meetings held by test facility supervision and technologists to manage and establish lab and vehicle priority and discuss any missing info or test issues that may arise (AEC NVH and DTF Wind Tunnel)
  • Coordinate with Roush instrumentation team to complete fuel system instrumentation required for each test vehicle.
  • Perform hot checks following completion of vehicle instrumentation to ensure all analog pressure and voltage/current settings are valid.
  • Perform Fuel Systems vehicle DV tests in Dearborn and remote locations (Ford APG, Arizona, California, Denver, northern Michigan, and others as requested)
  • Work with F4T team to coordinate post build hardware and software updates.
  • Coordinate with engine calibration team to determine DC1 and DC2 calibration release dates and update vehicle calibrations.
  • Facilitate meetings with the applications teams on prototype vehicle test plans, timing, ordering, spare parts, test status, and any issues.
  • Analyze data after each test is performed to ensure test data is valid and quickly assess any fuel or evap system performance issues.
  • Write test reports for all vehicle DV tests completed and upload results to APDM for the application teams and SMEs to review.
  • Review data with the SMEs.
  • Create / update / maintain individual timing plans for each program responsible for.
  • Update test methods (TMs) with thorough reviews with peers and SMEs and prepare for release in FEDE.
  • Coordinate work, updates, and testing with technicians.
