About The Position

The Marine Fuel Dock Attendant is responsible for safely fueling vessels at an ocean dock providing fuel, water and pump out services for visiting boaters and company boats. This role provides professional customer service to vessel operators and guests. This role requires strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in a marine environment. Additionally, you will serve as a dock greeter, guiding boats and guests to and from the fuel dock and moorings while managing commercial traffic in and out.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to operate a VHF radio with clear, proper radio etiquette
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and marine conditions
  • Ability to lift, pull hoses, and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proper cash handling procedures
  • Ability to follow directions and effectively coordinate functions with the rest of the department

Nice To Haves

  • Previous mariner, dock or fueling experience preferred
  • Knowledge of marine safety practices and environment regulations is preferred
  • California Boaters Card upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Safely dispense fuel to boats and vessels in accordance with marina and Coast Guard safety procedures
  • Assist vessel operators with docking, mooring and line handling as needed
  • Monitor fueling operations to prevent spills, overfills, or leaks
  • Conduct visual inspections of vessels and fueling equipment prior to fueling
  • Respond promptly to fuels spills or emergencies following establish procedures
  • Greet customers professionally and assist with fueling requests
  • Monitor radios and provide directions for incoming traffic
  • Coordinate with harbor patrol operators according to department needs
  • Communicate general information about the island, harbor policies, rules and regulations, events, activities, and facilities available onshore
  • Monitor navigational hazards and report unattended docked boats
  • Assist with general dock upkeep, including cleaning and light maintenance
  • Process fuel sales accurately using point-of-sale systems
  • Other duties as assigned
