About The Position

The Maintenance Technician I position in the Solid Waste Division is responsible for assisting in refuse and recycling collection and disposal, as well as maintaining the Green Waste site. This role involves performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor, operating various maintenance equipment, and ensuring safety and efficiency in all tasks. The technician will work under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Leader and is expected to respond to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner.

Requirements

• Ability to operate various maintenance machines and equipment.
• Experience in performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor tasks.
• Knowledge of safety precautions related to maintenance work.
• Strong communication skills for public interaction.
• Ability to respond to emergency operations at any hour.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in refuse collection or recycling operations.
• Familiarity with operating power tools and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in refuse/recycling collection and disposal.
• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as refuse trucks, dump trucks, and front-end loaders.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain hand tools.
• Direct and control traffic around work sites.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Respond to public inquiries and resolve complaints efficiently.
• Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
• Participate in safety and risk management activities.
• Be available for emergency calls 24-hours a day during on-call duty.
• Work as a team and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
