As a FT Inbound Freight Handler at Southeastern Freight Lines, you will play a crucial role in the logistics process by loading and unloading freight onto and off of various equipment. This position requires you to assist in the recouping of damaged freight, ensuring that all items are handled with care and precision. Your responsibilities will include preparing, sweeping, inspecting, and cleaning trailers before loading freight, which is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. You will be expected to use safe lifting techniques to properly load and unload freight, selecting and utilizing the appropriate freight handling equipment. This may include forklifts, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, rollers, and any other available equipment necessary for moving, loading, arranging, rearranging, and unloading freight. Planning cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight is also a key aspect of this role, as it ensures the safe transport of goods. In addition to loading and unloading, you will count and inspect the condition of freight, documenting any shortages or damage. Reviewing freight bills for special instructions and checking manifests for existing exceptions will be part of your daily tasks. You will also need to verify the hazardous material product description, determine any discrepancies in the paperwork, and ensure proper placarding when loading hazardous materials. Properly blocking and bracing freight to prevent shifting during transport is another critical responsibility that you will undertake.
