About The Position

Overview: To prepare and deliver healthy, attractive and delicious soups, salads, entrees and desserts; develop standard recipes which meet Coop food policy and departmental objectives regarding local and organic food sourcing; help meet department goals for sales, margin, labor costs; supervise member workers in food preparation; provide exemplary customer service. Status: Part time, $16.50-$18.00/hour, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, Sunday and Monday availability required.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in cooking and food preparation or equivalent combination of culinary education and experience.
• Well organized, with strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic cooking technique, safe use of knives and slicers, proper work station sanitation techniques, and food temperature 'danger zone'.
• Familiarity with professional stoves, ovens and professional kitchen appliances.
• Demonstrated passion for cooking and giving great service to internal staff and member and to customers.
• Ability to remain calm and organized in a deadline-driven environment.
• Demonstrated organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
• Self-motivated.
• Ability to spend 100% of work time standing and with regular and frequent environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water.
• Ability to work safely and calmly in crowded environment.
• Ability to transport 50 lbs regularly.
• Ability to attend to and follow oral instructions and verbal cues in a noisy environment.
• Demonstrated familiarity with basic office software including word processing, email, internet access, and spreadsheets.
• Basic arithmetic skills.
• Willingness to learn and collaborate with co-workers.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare soups, salads and entrees according to specifications with a particular focus on seasonal, local and organic healthy ingredients and meals.
• Cater to a diverse array of dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and meat options.
• Use creative ingredients to enhance classic menu.
• Uphold commitment to serve high quality products at a competitive price while keeping waste to a minimum.
• Read and follow departmental production sheets correctly.
• Follow recipes, meeting time and quality standards for finished products.
• Know and follow proper rotation, dating and food storage procedures.
• Provide significant attention to customers including a willingness to go above and beyond expectations for all internal and external guests.
• Smile and greet everyone you encounter.
• Maintain awareness of customers throughout the store in order to ensure premier customer experience.
• Maintain a full and attractive grab and go case; maintain a full and attractive hot entrée table and hot soups; make coffees and keep coffee service area clean and full.
• Be positive in the performance of all aspects of the job.
• Re-stock key products before they are depleted.
• Take responsibility for knowing the menu and understanding recipes.
• Recognize and communicate to supervisor the need for adjustments in the production schedule.
• Maintain awareness of co-workers and their activities.
• Work effectively as part of a team; recognize when help is needed and be willing to offer or ask for help.
• Maintain consistency in food preparation while also providing creativity where appropriate.
• Be prompt for scheduled start times and be willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary to get the job done.
• Maintain stove and oven in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Promptly advise supervisor of any ordering requirements, equipment needs, or staffing issues.
• Attend all departmental meetings.
