About The Position

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Aviation Instructor to join its Aviation Department. The instructor will be responsible for providing comprehensive aviation education, including on-campus lectures, hands-on instruction, and academic advising for a diverse student population. The role emphasizes maintaining high standards in aviation training and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • U.S. Commercial Pilot Certificate or higher.
  • Single and Multi-engine land certification.
  • Instrument Airplane certification.
  • High-performance endorsement or logged high-performance flight time as P.I.C.
  • Complex endorsement or logged flight time as P.I.C. in a complex airplane.
  • Meet recent flight experience requirements as per FAA regulations.
  • Current Flight Instructor Certificate.
  • FAA Medical Certificate with no restrictions preventing performance of flight duties.
  • One year actively employed as a full-time flight instructor in an FAA part 141 flight school or military equivalent experience.
  • At least 2,000 total flight hours experience.
  • At least 1,000 hours of dual flight instruction given as a flight instructor.
  • 50 hours of flight time under actual or simulated instrument conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-engine Flight Instructor Certificate.
  • Prior experience in various aircraft types including Beechcraft and Cessna.
  • Tail-wheel endorsement or logged flight time as P.I.C. in a tail-wheel airplane.
  • Experience with Garmin 650/750, G1000 equipment.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using technology in the classroom.
  • International flight experience.
  • Experience in meteorology and turbo-prop or jet aircraft.
  • Experience with recruiting and improving student success and retention.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-campus lecture, lab, and instruction in aviation theory.
  • Conduct hands-on instruction for Commercial Pilot students, including instrument and related ground school classes.
  • Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through effective teaching methodologies.
  • Maintain the integrity of the instructional sequence in the Commercial Pilot program.
  • Develop and maintain competence in current aviation and educational technologies.
  • Be responsible for normal care of facilities, equipment, and supplies used for training.
  • Provide academic and program advising for the Aviation Department.
  • Assist with normal non-flying flight line activities, including student flight recordkeeping.
  • Provide access to students and support their academic success through various methods.
  • Assist in the recruitment, retention, and completion of students in the Aviation program.
  • Evaluate, develop, or modify curriculum to reflect current standards of aviation.
  • Participate as an active member of the faculty through college governance and committees.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development activities.
