About The Position

The Cake Decorator at Hy-Vee is responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with their bakery orders both over the phone and in person. The role emphasizes providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to enhance the shopping experience. The Cake Decorator will also keep current on new designs and trends, ensure department standards are met, and communicate effectively with the bakery manager regarding displays and special needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials, and guide people.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and learns their names.
• Assists customers in locating products and loading/unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and takes product orders.
• Takes customer orders at the Bakery counter.
• Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
• Decorates bakery items in a timely manner.
• Checks cake orders for details and indicates supply needs.
• Orders supplies for decorating area and checks off the order.
• Delivers product and sets up wedding cakes on site.
• Communicates with bakery manager regarding displays and weekly ads.
• Tracks daily retail production and identifies tasks to be completed.
• Operates as a lead worker with part-time or other employees.
• Participates in employee cross training.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and keeps the work area clean.
• Wraps all product as necessary and assists in other areas of the store.
