Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to push/pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks; performs repetitive arm movements for product preparation and display.
  • Requires manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Mental alertness required to ensure safe and accurate work.
  • Basic math skills; understanding of weights, measures, product varieties, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox equipment.
  • Uses cleaning supplies and equipment safely.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering systems.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies.
  • Reliable attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction.
  • Answers incoming calls, resolves customer complaints appropriately, and escalates to the Store Director as needed.
  • Rotates and discards outdated or spoiled products; maintains cleanliness of the department and work area.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensures merchandise is accurately priced, properly displayed, shelves are clean, and fixtures are well maintained.
  • May assist in other areas of the Grocery Department as required.
  • Follows and maintains department standards and requirements.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code dating practices are followed for all department products.
  • May assist with semi-annual physical inventory.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains inventory levels according to division directives. Stocks and rotates product regularly.
  • Supervises reclamation processing; maintains orderly, in-stock backroom and Frozen Food Department conditions.
  • Controls shrink and cost.
  • Implements correct product preparation techniques and operates related equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, safety cutters, knives, scissors, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating.
  • Adheres to product temperature, storage, packaging, and administrative recordkeeping requirements.
  • Accurately completes, maintains, and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor records, and other required paperwork.
  • Ensures proper product temperature levels; complies with labeling laws, state/federal regulations, and company coding policies.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures sanitation, cleanliness, and safety of work areas, coolers, equipment, and displays—including code date compliance.
  • Executes emergency procedures when equipment or software malfunctions occur.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to place product orders.
  • Ensures compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other necessary or assigned duties.
