About The Position

In the role of Front Office Dental Assistant, the individual reports to the Dental Clinic Manager and is responsible for maintaining effective interaction with the public and personnel, performing assigned duties under the supervision of the dental physician, and performing front office duties. All staff may be required to float to all locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Dental Assistant training program
  • Current American Heart Association BLS (Healthcare Provider) certification
  • At least six months of front desk/customer service experience

  • Dental assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and greet and direct visitors
  • Schedule appointments using specified scheduling software for new patients and follow ups as needed
  • Perform necessary registration functions to include insurance verification, updating demographic information, and emergency contact information
  • Review all patient related forms for accuracy and completeness of information, assisting patients as necessary
  • Collect fees from patients for sliding scale dental procedures and record properly on cash sheet
  • Assist patients with sliding scale applications and assign proper sliding scale annually
  • Relay messages from patients to clinicians
  • Assist in patient referrals as needed
  • Maintain dental records and files, ensuring patient information is kept confidential and privacy is respected in accordance with current Health Information Privacy and Portability Act guidelines
  • Maintain stock of office supplies and notify supervisor of items needed
  • Maintain lobby in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Handle sensitive patient issues tactfully in a calm, professional manner
  • Observe behavior of visitors in lobby and ask for assistance or notify manager
  • Expose and process quality diagnostic radiographs as prescribed by the dentist, as needed
  • Assist the dentist with patient examination or procedure, as needed
  • Maintain effective interaction with the public and personnel
  • Perform assigned duties under the supervision of the dental physician
  • Perform front office duties
  • Be responsible for personal safety and the safety of patients, visitors, and coworkers
