About The Position

The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the goals, values and operating principles of Sedano’s Supermarkets, and in conformity with all laws and regulations governing the company. Every employee is to follow the policies and procedures of his/her department as well as those of the company to ensure smooth operations. Every employee, regardless of job title, is responsible for ensuring a safe environment throughout the store. This includes, but is not limited to immediately securing an area when a hazardous situation occurs, promptly informing the store manager of the situation, and/or promptly taking action to remove the hazardous condition. Every employee must also maintain a friendly attitude, wear the proper uniform or dress code, keep the store stocked and organized, and provide excellent customer service on a regular basis. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of 18 years of age and 6 months to 1 year of related experience.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability and willingness to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers and the general public
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use computer to accomplish essential duties of this position
  • Ability to use 10-key adding machine, fax machine, printer or other office equipment
  • Takes responsibility for own actions
  • Ability to work overtime, as necessary, in order to complete assignments or reach goals
  • Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with a high standard of integrity and reliability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to problem solve when given several variables in different situations
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness

Responsibilities

  • Assist cashiers with checking out customers, cash/change orders, price checks
  • Approve overrides, errors and refunds as necessary for both the front end and cafeteria or hot foods
  • Ensure proper scheduling of 20+ cashiers, customer service staff and baggers
  • Ensure proper coverage to process the number of customers checking out
  • Serve as a cashier when necessary to reduce the number of customers in line
  • Reassign cashiers and baggers to straighten out displays and shelves of merchandise (a/k/a “facing”)
  • Effectively manage customer complaints and requests
  • Supervise the customer service counter with the processing of Money Orders, Western Union Money transfers, Check Cashing, cigarette and lottery purchases, and Bill Pay transactions such as FPL, AT&T, etc.
  • Assist with the inventory count of cigarettes, lottery tickets and cashier’s checks
  • Extract sales reports as necessary from the company computer
  • Keep the front of the store clean, organized, and free from safety hazards
  • Ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers and employees
  • Assist management with the interviewing and selection of top quality employees as openings occur
  • Train new front end employees on proper procedures and company policies
  • Provide management with input on performance of customer service staff, cashiers and baggers
  • Attend, plan and/or participate in meetings with management and staff
  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of proprietary company information and sensitive employee records
  • Punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; ensures work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absences
  • Serve as bagger when necessary
  • Order supplies for front end
  • Order employee uniforms
  • Print labels for name tags; distribute name tags
  • Add or change paper in registers, printer, adding machine or other office equipment
  • Report any equipment malfunctions and/or call for repair
  • Performs other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position
