About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including front end loaders, to assist in construction projects. This role involves not only the operation of equipment but also the maintenance and repair of machinery, ensuring safety standards are met, and coordinating with crew members. The operator will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be required to work extended hours or night shifts. The position requires a commitment to safety and ongoing training to ensure proficiency in equipment operation.

Requirements

• 1 to 3 years of industry experience
• Completion of heavy equipment apprenticeship
• Ongoing training and evaluations
• Attentiveness to surroundings for safety
• Hand-eye-foot coordination and depth perception
• Near and far vision acuity and good reaction time
• Physical stamina for operating equipment
• Familiarity with global positioning systems (GPS)
• At least 18 years old
• Holding a commercial driver's license (CDL)
• Passing pre-employment and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) screening

Responsibilities

• Operating front end loader with materials
• Erecting and installing construction materials
• Laying roadbeds or paving materials
• Moving, loading or unloading items
• Cleaning, maintaining, and making basic repairs to equipment
• Reporting malfunctions to supervisors
• Maneuvering equipment using levers, pedals, or valves while ensuring safety standards
• Coordinating machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals
• Completing apprenticeship and on-the-job training with a mentor
• Ensuring proper maintenance of machinery and equipment
• Obtaining required licensing or certification to operate certain equipment
• Carrying or lifting heavy objects and performing physical tasks in awkward positions
• Working outdoors in all weather conditions, full-time or seasonally, including extended hours and night shifts
