Brunswick’s BI-DesignLab (BIDL or Lab), a member of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Research Park (RP), is seeking an intern to work with front-end development. BIDL is one of Brunswick’s advanced engineering centers. The Lab engages in POC style projects to envision the application of new and developing technologies to the recreational marine market. The Lab has been heavily involved in Brunswick’s autonomy, connectivity, and electrification (ACE) efforts, and is currently leading the charge in developing AI products. The Front-End Development Intern will be involved in developing server-side UI for web and mobile applications as well as UI for Multi-Function Displays (MFDs) developed by Brunswick. Front-End team is also responsible for CGI development at the Lab with Unreal Engine and may be expected to learn and work with UIs/HMIs in Unreal.   • Quickly understand problem statements and formulate a variety of possible solutions
  • Work with the teams that develop and deploy software solutions
  • Write and maintain code specific to active projects
  • Participate in code reviews for the Lab
  • Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality
  • Triage issues, root cause failures, and coordinate next steps
  • Partner with design to turn needs into features while balancing user experience with engineering constraints
  • Authorized to work in the United States immediately, without the need for sponsorship
  • Currently enrolled at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering
  • Coding experience with Python and Java, C, C++, or one other common programming language with the ability to demonstrate or share projects developed in those languages
  • Capability and desire to work with the lab for 2-3 years as an intern (Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior year or equivalent time to graduation)
  • Currently enrolled in a MS or PhD program in Computer Science, Software Development, or Software Engineering at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana
  • Prior experience developing with Java or Kotlin and Android Studio or similar app development environment
  • Prior experience developing in Unreal Engine, although experience with Unity or other similar software will be considered
  • Experience with UI development on non-standard applications like MFDs
  • Experience with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem
  • Hands-on experience in a professional setting
  • Supportive, collaborative work environment
  • Feedback and performance reviews throughout the assignment
