Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have current BLS certification.
  • Has full command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess the physical ability and perceptive acuity (e.g. visual, hearing) to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect care functions.
  • Meets the needs of services as demanded by the surgical schedule, particularly when overtime hours and time changes become necessary.
  • May be expected to life twenty-five pounds without assistance.
  • Is required to obtain assistance when moving patients unable to assist in moving unless patient is in a wheelchair or on gurney.
  • May be required to push patients in wheelchairs or on gurneys.
  • Will be expected to obtain assistance when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Greets the patient and family and is sensitive to their needs.
  • Uses electronic charts and HST.
  • Scheduling of surgical cases.
  • Maintains appointment schedule for patients.
  • Coordinates patient schedule with surgery schedule.
  • Ensures that patient charts are pulled, and information is accurate prior to the surgery date.
  • Screens, takes messages, routes incoming calls, and assists out-going calls.
  • Responsible for keeping current registrations of patients, insurance companies and referring doctors.
  • Processes and gives receipt for monies received from patients and is responsible for the petty cash fund.
  • Takes down name and number of the adult (18 or over) taking the patient home and follows the center’s procedures relating to the patient’s departure.
  • Sets up basic patient charts for each new patient, responsible for filing and auditing patient charts, checking for completeness and accuracy of the medical transcription.
  • Refers charts back to appropriate staff and surgeons for completion.
  • Compiles quarterly reports on medical record deficiencies and assist with peer review for the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Coordinator.
  • Assures the confidentiality of all records by the required permission of the patient for releasing the chart information.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines when handling patient records.
  • Assures that all surgical charts are locked at the end of the day.
  • Ensures subpoenas and record requests are handled correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to train and supervise new personnel for the front office area.
  • Acts as a liaison between the surgical team and the patient’s family.
  • Prepare patients for surgery.
  • Bring patient to admitting area, communicate proper procedural dress to patient, assist patient with placing belongings in patient belonging bag, help tie gown or place socks on patient’s feet, bring blanket to patient and ensure patient is as comfortable as possible in pre-op.
  • Assist patient in standing or dressing after procedure if needed.
  • Move gurneys and chairs as needed to maintain surgery schedule and patient flow.
  • Required to obtain assistance when moving patients unable to assist in moving themselves unless patient is in wheelchair or on a gurney.
  • Will be required to push patients in wheelchairs or on a gurney.
  • Walk patients out to car.
  • Prepare and maintain instruments and supplies for treatments.
  • Operate sterilizers according to manufacturer’s guidelines and following proper procedures.
  • Label and documents all forms, stickers, charts, graphs, etc. that are involved in sterilization and quality assurance according to policy.
  • Assist with turnover and cleaning of treatment rooms.
  • Preventative maintenance and logs on equipment, as directed by the manager.
  • Order medical supplies when necessary.
  • Daily checks with stocking the center in its entirety.
  • Intake and stock of supplies and deliveries, verify with packing slips, and distribute to designated areas.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Assist staff with duties as needed.
  • Adhere to regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Present a professional image when representing service to patients and personnel.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-services.
