About The Position

The position involves working in the Harvest Room at the Fresh Plant in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, specifically as a Live Hanger. The role requires hanging live birds onto the overhead shackle line from the live bird hanging conveyor. The successful candidate will be responsible for retrieving birds from the conveyor and hanging them on the overhead shackle line, controlling the feed rate of the hanging conveyor, and transporting dead-on-arrival (DOA) birds. The job requires standing for up to 8 hours with breaks, tolerating dark and dusty environments, and performing physical tasks such as lifting and hanging birds weighing between 3.5 to 6.5 pounds.

Requirements

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 3.5 pounds with repetitive lifting of up to 6.5 pounds.
• Must be able to tolerate dark and dusty environments.
• Must stand for 100% of the work shift with breaks.
• Bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching required to place birds on the line for processing.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve birds from the conveyor and hang them on the overhead shackle line.
• Control the feed rate of the hanging conveyor and the flow of birds.
• Transport dead-on-arrival (DOA) birds and dump them onto the dead bird take-away conveyor.
• Stand on a metal platform for up to 8 hours with breaks.
• Handle weights in excess of 50 pounds periodically when disposing of DOA birds.
• Perform other duties as tasked by administration.
