As a Fresh Foods Department Lead in the Produce department, you’ll help deliver the freshness, quality, and service that define the Meijer experience. You’ll support daily operations, guide team members, and ensure the department is clean, well‑stocked, and visually appealing. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, fast-paced environments, and leading others toward shared goals.

Requirements

  • Experience in produce, fresh foods, or grocery retail; leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of produce handling, quality indicators, and rotation practices.
  • Ability to lead by example and motivate a team in a busy environment.
  • Solid communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods; willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations within the Produce department, ensuring freshness, rotation, and food safety standards are consistently met.
  • Support, train, and coach team members to build a knowledgeable, customer‑focused team.
  • Manage ordering, inventory levels, and backroom organization to reduce shrink and maintain strong in‑stock conditions.
  • Create and maintain attractive, well‑organized displays that highlight seasonal items, promotions, and Meijer quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, sanitation expectations, and regulatory food safety requirements.
  • Assist with scheduling, task planning, and workload delegation to keep the department running efficiently.
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, offering product suggestions, and ensuring a clean, welcoming environment.
  • Partner with Fresh Foods leadership to meet sales, margin, and operational goals.
