About The Position

Silicon Valley International School (INTL) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) bilingual school (PYP, MYP, DP) dedicated to fostering a vibrant learning environment across our two campuses. Position Overview: The French Librarian will be instrumental in enhancing our Media Hub at the Elementary School campus and transforming the library at the Upper School & Early Years campus into dynamic, welcoming spaces that become the heartbeat of the school. This role is essential for cultivating an environment where students are excited to explore, engage, and find joy in reading and research.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library science, Information Science, or a related field preferred
  • Fluent in English and either French, with exceptional communication skills in both languages, preferred.
  • Proven experience in a library or educational setting, with demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of the IB curriculum and a fervent commitment to promoting literacy and research skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, teachers, and parents, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Passion for creating engaging, welcoming spaces that inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the revitalization of the Media Hub and Upper School Library, ensuring these spaces are warm, inviting, and designed to encourage student participation and exploration.
  • Create a culture of engagement where students feel inspired to visit the library, not just for classes but as a place to connect with peers and enjoy their learning.
  • Design and implement captivating activities and events during recess and after school that draw students into the library, such as book clubs, arts & crafts, and themed reading events.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate activities in the library with lessons, ensuring relevancy and excitement.
  • Curate a collection of resources in both languages (Chinese/English, French/English, German/English) that not only reflects the curriculum but also resonates with students' interests and passions.
  • Continuously assess and enrich the collection to keep it fresh, engaging, and representative of diverse perspectives.
  • Launch bold initiatives that foster a love of reading across all grade levels, encouraging participation through interactive challenges, author visits, and community reading events.
  • Provide personalized support to students in selecting literature and embarking on research projects, ensuring accessibility and enthusiasm in their learning journey.
  • Enhance library visibility and support.
  • Connect the library to the wider community.
  • Plan and lead community events in the Media Hub, such as Author Visits, Book Fairs, Parent Education Events, and more.
  • Embrace technology to elevate the library experience, incorporating digital tools and resources that enhance learning and research.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in library science and education, implementing innovative practices that prepare students for a rapidly evolving world.
  • Support students from start to finish with their research tasks through: An outstanding knowledge of online and local resources, including but not limited to the Peninsula Public Library System's physical and digital collections Excellent understanding of research methodologies and Research as an Approach to Learning Skill
  • Support faculty with research about approaches to teaching and learning and subject-specific content.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the school’s Research and Media Literacy curriculum that supports inquiry, critical thinking, and research excellence, in collaboration with IB Coordinators.
